Elevating Learning: Exploring the Benefits of CPD Training in Education

Posted by iAM Compliant
CPD Training

When you work in education, the overwhelming attitude is that you’re there to train others and pass on information that you know. While that’s true, it’s also vital that you, and anyone else working in the sector, should use Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to keep your skills and knowledge up to date. As it’s close to the start of this year, it's a great time to review your CPD training plan and identify any skills or knowledge gaps you want to fill.

Training benefits both you and those you teach or support. It enhances your knowledge, skills, and teaching methodologies, fostering continuous improvement, and adaptability to evolving educational trends, and ultimately, enhances the overall quality of the education you provide to students. Making learning a lifelong habit, rather than stopping once formal education ends, allows education professionals like you to remain effective throughout your career. Prioritising continuous growth demonstrates a commitment to excellence that ultimately benefits students.

Working closely with our Education Lead, Kirsty Treherne, we’ve put together a list of our top recommended courses from our course library for common education roles. Whether you're a teacher, school leader, or work in a support role, certain courses can help you develop professionally this year. We’ve outlined these below.

School leaders – Regardless of their exact role, school leaders can inspire, make critical decisions, set directions and work cooperatively with all stakeholders to improve student outcomes. As such, it’s recommended that they find our Health & Safety and our People Management and Leadership course collections most useful. These include titles like Fire Safety Awareness, The Basics of Manual Handling, Slips, Trips & Falls, Lighting, Welfare Facilities, Managing Sickness, Setting Effective Goals for KPIs, Motivating Your Team and many more.

Management – Those within a management role, for example, School Business Managers, Headteachers and HR staff would find courses from our Belonging, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (BEDI), Human Resources and Policy & Compliance collections. Course titles from these collections include Unconscious Bias, Bullying, Bring Your Whole Self to Work, Modern Slavery, Asbestos Awareness, Ladder Safety and DSE among others.

All staff – There are certain courses that all staff should take, regardless of role. They include courses from the Health & Wellbeing, Mental Health, Establishing a Learning Culture, Cyber Security, Office Health & Safety and Safeguarding Awareness collections. They include The Importance of Exercise, Stress, Panic Attacks, Growth Mindset, Continuous Learning, GDPR, and Viruses & Malware

Continuous learning is crucial for all those working in education, regardless of your role. The education landscape is constantly evolving as new technologies, teachings, and policies emerge. Educators must actively keep their skills and knowledge current to provide the best learning environments and experiences for students. Whether you work directly with students as a teacher or administrator or you support student learning through other roles, dedicating time for ongoing professional development ensures you can meet the changing needs of students.
