AAIs (EpiPen) Use & Severe Allergy Response
Allergic reactions can occur anywhere in a school and can escalate quickly. In some cases, they can become life-or-death situations within minutes. This is called anaphylaxis. Knowing how to recognise the signs of anaphylaxis and respond without delay is essential for keeping children safe and is now legally required for all school staff under new legislation called Benedict’s Law.
Learning outcomes:
- Recognise the signs of an allergic reaction and anaphylaxis so you can act quickly to keep a child safe
- Identify the correct response to an anaphylaxis emergency, to give treatment without delay
- Recognise how to use an adrenaline auto-injector (AAI – e.g., EpiPen or Jext) safely, to confidently save a life
