About this course

If you’re a teacher, have you ever noticed a girl acting differently after a long absence from school? They might be more withdrawn and have difficulty walking. Or perhaps you’ve worked or volunteered with girls in another field and have heard them talking about ‘becoming a woman soon’? Or that they’re ‘being prepared for marriage’?

These instances could be signs that a girl has either suffered from, or is at risk of undergoing, FGM. Also known as ‘cutting’ or ‘female circumcision’, female genital mutilation is the alteration or removal of a female’s genitals for non-medical reasons. FGM is incredibly harmful. It’s illegal in the UK and considered to be child abuse.

Engaging the learner

FGM is a difficult and upsetting subject to talk about. So, we knew that our course needed to be sensitively addressed, but also deliver the vital and full facts, in a way that could be understood by everyone. To do this, we used simple line drawn animation, and broke the course down into manageable sections. This allows the learner to take breaks whenever they need to.

To make sure important information is being retained by the learner, the course also contains a series of interactive knowledge checkers, and a final quiz bank, to check understanding. And to continue the learning beyond the course, our blended material contains a workbook and development plan, to ensure that learners will be able to use their knowledge if they need to.

Piece of mind with testing

Peace of mind with testing

This course also has an assessment at the end which allows learners to test their understanding and helps businesses demonstrate a level of competence in the topic.

With a bank of questions learners will get randomised assessments which means if people do fail the assessment, they aren't faced with the same quiz again; after all you want to test learners knowledge and not their ability to remember the right button to press second time around.

Everyone has the right to learn and learner need can vary demanding on environment or disabilities. This course comes with transcripts so people have text options for an media, subtitles for all videos and is screen reader friendly with alternative text.

We take a number of steps to ensure visuals and navigation is easy for your people.
